As part of the National Heritage Open Days week Phil Marsh, the author of ‘The Full Works’ has given countless fascinating talks on several topics including the Royal Train and Wolverton Works.
The Royal Train
Wolverton’s Royal connections: The Royal Train has been based at Wolverton since 1842 and constructed there since 1869. Anecdotes and images about Royal Trains through the ages including how the author was instructed to sell the Royal Train in 1997. And a detailed look at the 1952 Royal funeral train as in how much booze was consumed alongside how many sausage rolls and sandwiches - plus the row about the cost!
The construction and operation of the London & Birmingham Railway.
How Wolverton became the World’s first railway town. The construction and operation of the London and Birmingham Railway, the world’s first long distance intercity railway between 1836 and 1840 in contemporary 1830s images accompanied by anecdotes taken from 1830s documentation including the first clerk to be employed on the LBR.
The history and future of Wolverton Works
Past, present and future. A canter through 184 years of Wolverton Works’ history plus what the future holds for the UKs most complete Victorian railway works.
The Lost Buildings of Wolverton Works - Behind the wall.
A look at the Works’ buildings behind the famous mile long boundary wall along the Stratford Road looking at the buildings that make up today's Wolverton Works plus the lost buildings demolished in the huge scale 1980s demolition. Featuring a high proportion of previously unseen images inside the derelict buildings and considering the three Wolverton railway stations using archive material from the 1830s.
These are all digital talks and Phil Marsh will be your speaker, all you have to provide is a venue and a digital projector to use with a laptop. Talks can be structured to the time available up to a maximum of 90 minutes. To book a talk or exhibition please complete the form below.
East West Rail revival
Philip was the official photographer for the Bletchley to Bicester railway rebuilding.
He has two talks on this billion pound project:
Bletchley flyover rebuilding
East meets west - the 18 mile new railway rebuilding.
There is a scale of charges depending on travel time. And a digital projector is also to be provided by the host please!

Friday 7th November at 730pm. Charity fundraiser Royal Train talk at Lionhearts Cruising Club, Great Linford, Milton Keynes. Just FOUR tickets left. Contact me for details please.
